Jonah and the Jazz band

Last night we had the privilege to watch Jonah and the Fulbright Jazz band play at Crystal Bridges in the Great Hall. They performed 5 songs and Jonah soloed on song 2. He did such an incredible job. I always stare at him and all the kids in awe when they perform. Such dedication and control these kids show, tapping their little feet in beat the entire time. I always forget to record the feet. It's my favorite part besides watching Jonah do what he loves, play music.

It's been such an honor watching these bands grow and I am going to miss these concerts. He is heading off to the big show in the Fall and things will change. He is already marching and found out he made the second band in BHS. It is such a large band that they are broken up into 5 different levels.

Wind Ensemble - 1
Symphonic Winds - 2
Symphonic Band - 3
Concert Winds - 4
Concert Band - 5

These are kids 9th - 12th all auditioning each year. The higher up band you are represents the level of skill and allows you to compete and be apart of every opportunity the band has to offer. Jonah made the 2nd band his first try which is pretty incredible. He hopes to make first band next year and is also hoping to be section leader one day. We are so proud of this sweet boy who never ceases to surprise and amaze us with his abilities. I never knew what his niche would be. We often wondered where he would choose to put all his amazingness...then he found band in 5th grade and never looked back.
His concert band performance is coming up next week but until then, please enjoy Song for my Father played by the Junior High Fulbright Jazz band....(Jonah is the last soloist)
Skip to 2:23 to hear Jonah's solo which he wrote himself
