The day we didn't go to Silver Dollar City..

We have season passes to SDC (thanks to my momma) and decided spontaneously to take yesterday off work and take the kids before school lets out and it gets too hot. We prepped and packed the car and headed to my parents house Tuesday night so we could get up early and be closer to the park. Mema and Papa came along on their motorcycle and we all talked about what rides we were going to ride first and what order. We picked the train.
As we drove into the park after a long drive Justin and I both read a big marquee "We are CLOSED today" We looked at each other reading expressions and how we should proceed. My heart broke. I almost got sick. How was I going to tell my very excited kids that their mother effed up big time. We continued driving into the park even though we knew there was no chance of riding that train.
Turns out it was the only Wednesday they were closed all season. It was on their calendar. If I had just checked the website...We weren't the only dumb dumbs there. A sweet looking family of six were sent back to their vehicle with the saddest looks on their faces.
Surprising, the kids took it really well. We tried to hide our broken hearts and turned it around. We headed to Promised Land Zoo.

Jonah was in heaven. I took a picture of the list at the front of the zoo because he kept wanting to run back and see what was next on the list to see. So he held onto my phone and made sure we saw everything.

They had an animal show and brought out an armadillo, Burmese python and a baby alligator to pet. Jonah was the first to get out of his chair to go pet and touch everything.

Everyone slept on the way home. Including our driver.

We didn't get to ride the train but we did get feed parakeets peanut butter off sticks, bottle feed a camel, llamas and some baby goats. Jonah bottle fed a baby goat all by himself and hasn't stopped talking about going back to do it all again. Those goats were precious and you could tell all the animals were very well cared for. They were clean, soft and happy. Truly a promised land.
It was a spontaneous trip that didn't go quite as planned but turned into an awesome day we never expected to have.
Mission accomplished.
